Random Acts of Kindness

I don’t want to get too personal on here but I have been going through a lot this past year and I was feeling very “down” to say the least. Taking the trip to San Francisco with my mom was very much needed. I needed to get off island, get away from people, get away from the normalities of my life that were bringing me down and go somewhere different where noone knew my name and be around someone who loves me. So that’s what I did with my lovely mom. While there, I secretly worked on my happiness and my thought process to better my emotional health.

Walking down the boardwalk in San Francisco and seeing this man stand alone with a ‘FreeHugs” sign, I knew I had to hug him. It would be my Random Act of Kindness for the day. I asked my mom to record it and this man hugged me like he knew me! It wasn’t a quick awkward hug, it was a strong, genuine hug that I didn’t expect and to be completely honest, it made my day. It felt good. I felt like I was giving him something he obviously wanted and I was receiving something I needed. Human touch is a powerful thing even if it’s from a stranger because it transmits those “feel good” hormones and I think I just needed to do something nice for someone else because that’s what makes me feel good! Also, being thousands of miles away from my family who embraces each other when we get together, I was missing that human affection. But I don’t know why that man was offering ‘Free Hugs’, I don’t know if it was an experiment or he just wanted a hug but I know that those 10 seconds blessed me in a way I didn’t expect.

So I challenge you to do something nice for someone else and see how it blesses you and make you feel! Β πŸ™‚
